Day 1: Arrival - Ho Chi Minh
On arrival at Tan San Nhat Airport, you are met by our guide and transferred to hotel. The bustling Ho Chi Minh City, still called Saigon by many locals, is a center of commerce, finance, culture and tourism in Vietnam. This metropolis ,contradiction of its northern counterpart, is crowded with bikes and motorbikes, excited by numerous shopping areas and sidewalk cafes. ( If time permits) we stroll around the down town to explore the different local ways of life. O/N in Ho Chi Minh.
Day 2 : Ho Chi Minh
Today we spend a full day exploring the captivating Ho Chi Minh City. The most places of interest are located near the town center. We pass by the now-demolished wartime American Embassy on our way to the Reunification Palace. This famous mansion was a former residence of the President of Southern Vietnam until end of April 1975. Close to the palace are some striking French colonial structures including the Notre Dame Cathedral and the Old Sai Gon Post Office. Upon leaving these landmarks we drive to see the crowded Saigon’s Chinatown, locally named Cho Lon, which is crammed with fascinating temples as well as mysterious and narrow lanes. We follow it with a visit to the Jade Emperor Pagoda and the War remnant exhibit with a wealth of images from the notorious conflicts. The sightseeing ends up with a walk around the retail Ben Thanh Market where anything and everything is for sale!. O/N in Ho Chi Minh. (B)
Day 3 : Ho Chi Minh - Cu Chi - Tay Ninh - Ba Den Mountain
The incredible underground network in Cu Chi stretched over 200 kilometres and became legendary during the American war. The extensive tunnels have been specially constructed with living areas, weapon factories, filed hospitals, command centres, plus accommodation. Today we have an excursion to Cu Chi Tunnels to visit an exposition hall and a widened section of the tunnels to get a feel of the underground life. There are also possibilities to fire off rounds from an AK47 or MK16 at the nearby rifle range. Upon leaving Cu Chi we drive a short distance to Tay Ninh, the headquarters of Cao Dai Sect . This religion was founded in 1923 and now numbers over 2 million members. We arrive in time to see the ornate temple of Cao Dai and attend the fantastic mid-day service. The next stop is Ba Den Mountain which was a base for the US Army's 25th Infantry Division. We embark on a walk up to the summit for an impressive view of the surrounding areas. O/N in Ho Chi Minh. Day 4 : Ho Chi Minh - Bien Hoa - Long Binh - Vung Tau
Heading out of town we drive along the highway No 1 to visit Bien Hoa and Long Binh, the former USARV head quarters. These war sites have not much remains to see but still evoke some souvenirs of time gone by . Along the way we can make stopover at Di An and Bear Cat which are some famous spots in the American war map. Turning southwest we head towards Vung Tau beach, which used to be a crowded rest and relaxation place in war time. The remainder of day is for exploring some interesting sights in place. They are Villa Blanche, mountaintop Jesus, Light House and Niet Ban Tinh Xa Pagoda. O/N in Vung Tau. (B)
Day 5 : Vung Tau - Xuan Loc - Ho Chi Minh
The fabulous sun and sea are also a highlight of our trip to Vung Tau. Today we depart for Ho Chi Minh, using slightly different route and pass by the 11th Armored Cav's former headquarters on our way to Xuan Loc. This small town was once the last fierce ARVN/NVA battle in 1975 before the fall of Saigon regime. The battle filed has left its vestiges in form of some memorials but it is still interesting to stroll around this fast growing town. On arrival in Ho Chi Minh you spend your time for an own exploration or a drink in continental hotel. This town center hotel was once the meeting for journalists during the war time. Day 6 : Ho Chi Minh - An Loc - Loc Ninh - Dong Xoai
The modern comfort will be left behind as we travel into the countryside and look for some vestiges of the painful war. We drive past the Iron Triangle to the restored village of Ben Suc - a famous VC arms port on the Saigon river where the Col Alexander Haig landed with his 1st Division, unit to kick off Operation Cedar Falls. We travel up the highway No 13 well known as the Thunder Road through Phu Cuong before arriving at Phu Loi, a former base for the ARVN 5th Division Headquarter , 1st US Aviation Brigade, POW Camp and the old 128th AHC airfield. The next stops are Ben Cat and Lai Khe, which were the 3rd Brigade Head quarters of the US 1st Infantry Division and also home of the 173rd AHC. Upon leaving Lai Khe Cat we make our way to Loc Ninh to visit some more combat bases. O/N in Dong Xoai. (B)
Day 7 : Dong Xoai - Budop - Song Be - Ho Chi Minh
Today we continue our expedition towards Bu Dang and Bu Dop, a special force camp in northern III Corps. These camp sites had been turned into rice fields or villages however views of surrounding areas are still interesting. Today we venture into Song Be Province to explore some key locations in War Zone D of which the violent battlefields are still in memory of the many veterans. On arrival we enjoy a walk through peaceful village and encounter the local people going about their daily business such as tilling the fields, cutting rice and rowing boat. A part of the pleasure of travelling in this region is the simple joy of seeing the rice fields and the smiling faces of the people. O/N in Ho Chi Minh. (B)
Day 8: Ho Chi Minh - Departure
There is a free time to relax or further explore Ho Chi Minh City. The tour ends after your transfer to Tan San Nhat Airport for departure. (B)
